Former NFL Player Blake Proehl Earns Golden Ticket on American Idol

In a surprising turn of events, former NFL player Blake Proehl has made a successful transition from the football field to the American Idol stage. The Charlotte native, who once played for the Minnesota Vikings, impressed the judges with his rendition of Brett Young’s ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ during the auditions of season 22.

The judges showered praise for Proehl’s performance. Immediately after he sang, pop superstar Katy Perry rushed to get his autograph and said, “Every grandma thinks that their grandchildren are great, but you’re right. If you let us be your coaches, you’re going to be in the top 10.”

Country singer Luke Bryan complimented Proehl’s rendition, saying, “You just did that song the right way, and a very believable way…every girl you sit down and sing that to, they’re going to be melted butter. It was just a real moment”.

Music legend Lionel Richie summed up Proehl’s performance in one word: “natural”.

Proehl, who has gained a following of more than 500,000 on TikTok for his covers of popular pop songs, was thrilled with the judges’ feedback.

After receiving a resounding “yes” from all three judges, he said, “I’m going to frame this ticket and probably put it in Nana’s house, because that’s where this all started”.

The judges even discussed his audition after he left the room, with Lionel Richie calling him a “heartthrob” and Katy Perry suggesting that he could win the competition.

This golden ticket means Proehl will be heading to Hollywood for the next round of the competition. It will be interesting to see how far this former NFL player will go in the world of music.
