The video, which was reportedly filmed seven years ago, surfaced online last week and quickly went viral, sparking speculation and curiosity about Garratt’s sexual orientation. However, the 28-year-old, who played for Hull Kingston Rovers and Dewsbury Rams before retiring from rugby in 2022, has dismissed the rumors and maintained a light-hearted attitude about the situation.

In an interview with the Pitch Side podcast, Garratt explained that the video was a result of a night out with his friend, who he identified as “Big Dave”. “It was just a bit of banter, nothing serious. We were both hammered and we thought it would be funny to wind up the lads,” he said.

Garratt also said that “It doesn’t mean I’m bi, it doesn’t mean I’m gay”, he continued, before adding: “Well, maybe it does, but do you know what, if I am, I am. Alright?”

He said that he has a girlfriend, who he did not name, and that she knows about the video and is supportive of him.

“I’m happy with who I am and I don’t need labels. I love my girlfriend and she loves me. She knows it was a joke and she’s cool with it. She’s a good sport,” Garratt said.

Garratt has also addressed the video on his social media platforms, such as TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), where he has a large following. He has made jokes about the situation and his friend, and has also commented on other topics like sports and music.

On TikTok, Garratt joked that “what goes on holiday should stay on holiday” and that he thinks whoever leaked the video is weirder than him. He also said that he was a friend in need and a friend indeed, and that he doesn’t care if he is gay or bi.

On X, Garratt made a tongue-in-cheek joke about the Arsenal vs. Liverpool match, where he wrote “Anyway… what a result for Arsenal”. When a follower commented “gotta hand it to them” in an apparent reference to the leaked video, Garratt replied “I did mate, I did”.
